Album Review: Lee Fields - My World

Lee Fields has been on the soul scene since the early seventies and now with a 15-piece band and arrangements reminiscent of James Brown, his new album sounds like it belongs both now and then. The new album entitled My World is being released on Truth & Soul Records, started in 2004 with a mission statement to create, "music that was both tough as nails and sweet as honey." This mantra is clearly audible on songs such as "Money I$ King," and "Ladies." The album is rife with beautiful harmonies and on songs like "My World Is Empty Without You," there is a more contemporary feel that is easily accompanied by The Expressions' incredible musicianship. From start to finish the album is inspiring, emotional, and totally heartfelt, just like soul should be. Truth & Soul is also home to The Phenomenal Handclap Band and El Michels Affair, 2 hefty funk bands also highly recommended.
