Artist Watch: Discovery
by Madelyn on July 17, 2009
Discovery is the bound-to-be-hip joint side-project of Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend and Wes Miles of Ra Ra Riot. (and the name's better than Ra Ra Weekend or Vampire Riot, right?). With a drum machine and a few synths, they make for exuberant fun. "Carby," featuring an auto-tuned Ezra Koenig, will get stuck in your head for days, and "Swing Tree" is bound to make your summer playlist. And you will doubtless puzzle over an intriguing cover of "I Want You Back" (personally, my favorite part of the original is the thumping bass, which here is replaced with an unidentifiable machine sound. not better than the Jacksons, but an interesting take). As far as one-off side-projects go, this one deserves plenty of notice.
