Friendly Fires - Pala

Since I've moved to New York, there has been only one band that I've had issues with finding someone to go to their concert. That band is Friendly Fires. I don't know why people haven't heard them or don't want to go, but after the release of their second album, Pala, I'm sure I will never have a problem with getting people to see them with me ever again.

SIDENOTE: For the record, I finally went to a Friendly Fires concert and IT WAS EPIC. Lead singer Ed MacFarlane is the best dancer I have ever witnessed.

Anyway, Pala is a perfect followup to their self-titled debut; it shows progression and full-development of their sound. I honestly like every track on the album and had a hard time deciding which one to include for y'all. Their first single "Blue Cassette" is such a strong track and is best listened to at loud decibels. I literally said aloud to myself "THIS IS AWESOME" when I first heard "Hurting." "Chimes" might be my favorite--after 16 listens of the album, I'm 85% sure of this--but then I get another track stuck in my head and I question myself. I chose to include in this post "Pala," the title track. "Pala" is the slowest, but overall sexiest song on the album. "Pala" is a reference to the island in Aldous Huxley's novel, Island,  which is the utopian counterpart to Brave New World, making "Pala" the most intellectual/hipster-cred song as well. Pala will be released in the US on May 24, but full streams of the album are available online for those who can't wait. As a heads up, if you want to accompany me to their free show this summer at Central Park, let me know! I wish I was half-kidding...

Yes, it is weird that they are not very well known. They're great! The hit song on their last album was Skeleton Boy which never gets old. (PS: the single version is better then the album version.)
